Vision ABQ was incorporated in 2009 as the financial arm of the Grant Chapel AMEC Lay Organization’s Scholarship Award.
The Grant Chapel AMEC Lay Organization began giving out scholarships to student church members only in 2001. Mrs. Bernice Lee donated $1,000 to for the first scholarship. Each year since then, the donations increased for the student church members. Most of the donations came from Grant Chapel AMEC membership. The scholarship awards were given out each year during the MLK Jr. Commemorative Breakfast which is hosted by the Grant Chapel AMEC Lay Organization.
The purpose of this organization shall be to meet the needs of the community and to provide educational opportunities to minority and low income populations.
To help young people of color change their lives and meet these new difficulties of today's world through higher education. Thus, making that life change a reality for low-income students and students of color.
To honor the values work and influence of Dr. King, Vision ABQ will award scholarships to graduating high school seniors, as they prepare to equip themselves for the future. Applicants must have earned a grade point average of 2.5 or higher.

Scholarship amounts will depend on funds available and have ranged from $500-$4,000 in past years.
Applications will be accepted from September 15 - December 25 2024. All applicants will be notified of award decisions by the end of December 2024.
Presentations of the awards will be made by the VABQ Scholarship Committee at a date to be determined.
